Collection: Our real one <tc>peppers</tc>

In common usage pepper can mean either black pepper or chili pepper. But there is so much more! When we speak about real pepper peppers we mean the fresh and dried fruits of plants belonging to the plant family Piperaceae. These are the only ones containing the pungent substance piperine, an alkaloid just like capsaicin, the pungent substance in chilis. peppersPiperine is compared to capsaicin quite mild. However, a (Piper) pepper can be perceived as quite spicy since other receptors are stimulated.

The best-known real pepper is, as mentioned, black pepper, the dried ripe or unripe berries of plants with the botanical name Piper nigrum.
