Collection: India

Following Europe's example, India has provided certain products with Geographical Indication, with which the origin of peppers is protected.

To this end, it uses the following classification of black peppers:

MG-1 - Malabar Garbled, Grade 1. (95% of the granules have a diameter of at least 3.25 mm and an apparent specific gravity of at least 550 g/l);

TGEB - Tellichery Garbled Extra Bold. (95% of the granules have a diameter of 4.25 mm and an apparent specific gravity of at least 530 g/l);

TGSEB - Tellichery Garbled Special Extra Bold (95% of the grains have a diameter of 4.75 mm and an apparent specific gravity of at least 530 g/l); both our Tellicherry pepper and Wayanad pepper meet this criterion.

A 500 g/l Malabar pepper is also sold internationally, with many relatively small, often empty berries, also known as pinheads. This quality of pepper is primarily used for ground black pepper, as the resulting pepper is quite dark and appeals to the demand for a distinctly "black" pepper.

The TGEB is used, among other things, in the production of Italian salami, and the TGSEB in the production of mortadella, and other meat products where the industry to aesthetic reasons a 'large', clearly visible peppercorn wish.
