For centuries, chili has been grown in the French Basque Country (Pays Basque).pepper cultivated. Like on the Spanish side, where the farmers from Lodosa In Pays Vasco, while traditionally growing the piquillo or Pikilloko piper, the French Basque farmers remain loyal to their 'piper' or 'gorria', the Capsicum annuum var gorria. The taste of Piment d'Espelette takes you back to the taste of yesteryear. Even without that knowledge, you would fall blindly for this delicious pepper go, with its unique aromas, a must in every kitchen.

This season, too, we are once again supplying three Espelette products from the Segida brand, which, after the family's departure Bessouat has been taken over by the friendly entrepreneur. Nicolas Darthayette. Nicolas represents a new generation of Espelette farmers. He works from the Okilaua family farm, just like Segida in Ainhoa, a small village near the Spanish border.

Nicolas started his company in 2019, receiving extensive technical support from Laurent Bessouat of 'our' Ferme Segida. And so, the circle is complete. For the time being, Nicolas will continue to produce products from the Segida farm under the name Segida, but at a later stage, that name will disappear and make way for that of his farm. Okilaua.

The current prices for the Segida jars remain unchanged, just like in 2024.

We expect that after the upcoming harvest, the name Segida will disappear permanently and make way for the new brand name Okilaua. The same product, a new 'look'.
