Collection: Piment d'Espelette

Chili peppers have been cultivated in the French Basque Country (Pays Basque) for centuries. Like on the Spanish side, where farmers from Lodosa While the piquillo or Pikilloko piper has traditionally been cultivated in Pays Vasco, French Basque farmers remain faithful to their 'piper' or 'gorria', the Capsicum annuum var gorria. The flavor of Piment d'Espelette takes you back to the taste of yesteryear. Even without knowing this, you'd be tempted by this delicious pepper, whose unique aromas make it a must-have in any kitchen.

This season we will again supply three Espelette products from the Segida brand, which was discontinued after the family's departure Bessouat has been taken over by the friendly entrepreneur Nicolas Darthayette. Nicolas represents a new generation of Espelette farmers. He works from the Okilaua family farm, just like Segida in Ainhoa, a village near the Spanish border.

Nicolas started his business in 2019, receiving extensive technical support from Laurent Bessouat of "our" Ferme Segida. This completes the circle. For now, Nicolas will continue to produce the products from the Segida farm under the Segida name, but at a later stage, that name will disappear and be replaced by that of his farm. Okilaua.

The current prices for the jars of Segida are unchanged, just like in 2024.

We expect that after the upcoming harvest, the Segida name will disappear permanently and be replaced by the new brand name, Okilaua. The same product, a new look.
