Collection: tail pepper

The best known, and not the only tail pepper, is the Indonesian cubeb or cubeb pepper (Piper cubebe), a 'true' pepper from the Piparaceae family. Other lesser-known tail peppers from this family are the rather rare Voatsiperifery (Piper borbonense) from Madagascar or Réunion and ashanti pepper or Benin pepper (Piper guineense) from Africa. The latter is the less bitter substitute for cubeb pepper, ideal for use in sweet dishes such as speculaas and pepernoten.
