The white Penja pepper is a medium-sized, aromatic pepper for lovers of a robust white pepper. The pepper is very fragrant and fruity, thanks to the mineral-rich, volcanic soil of the Penja Valley. Absolutely without pesticides and without artificial fertilizers.

Penja pepper is the first and so far only peppersoort, which is professionally cultivated on African soil. This has only been happening since the 1950s, when pepper was introduced there.

Moreover, this pepper is the first product on the African continent to be granted the European Indication géographique protégée (IGP) label. This label applies to all pepper grown in the Penja Valley and means that it is the only one allowed to bear that name.

Since the introduction of the pepper plant, pepper cultivation in Cameroon has taken off, and especially in recent years, it has become evident how a good product tells its own story. Not only has production increased sharply in recent years (although it is still a 'small' pepper at 300 tonnes per year), but so has the market price. More and more farmers are switching from the less profitable cultivation of cocoa and coffee to that of pepper.

The special thing about the Penja pepper is the result: a particularly flavorful pepper according to French gastronomes and chefs, who are very charmed by the pepper from the former French colony.

The pepper is harvested when ripe (red). PGI regulations prescribe how the white pepper is produced: in vats filled with drinking water, where the red husks detach after 7 to 10 days and float to the surface. This makes it easy to separate the white core from the red pepper skin, after which the pepper is dried in the sun. Light fermentation takes place during maceration, giving Penja pepper its unparalleled flavor profile.

Our packaging

We supply this product in a practical twist-off jar (clear glass) of 128ml and in bags. For smaller quantities we use laminated stand-up pouches with ziplock closure, made of PET and PE. The bag is approximately 90% recyclable and is collected with the plastic.

Our two-layer bio-based kraft bags consist of a layer of 60 gram kraft paper and 80 micron PLA plastic. This bag is 100% biodegradable and can be placed in the green bin.

We use our aluminum bags for packaging larger quantities. These three-layer bags are made of laminated 12 micron PET, 7 micron aluminum and 60 micron PE. This combination makes it not possible to fully recycle the bags. These bags must be presented with the other waste.

The test tubes are made of PS plastic, have a diameter of 16 millimeters and a length of 100 millimeters. The caps are made of LDPE.
