The Crushgrind© Billund is a sustainable spice grinder, made of biocomposite material, with a ceramic grinding element, highly suitable as pepper grinder.
The design is by Sam(uel) Murley of the Danish concept developer Ideas. The Billund is the newest addition to the Danish brand's range, available from us in three color schemes: lime, bell pepper and masala.
The handy, twelve-centimeter-high Billund is, just like the Kalas in our range, an 'inverted mill'. The mill stands with the grinding mechanism facing upwards, so that you do not spill any ground material on the work surface or tablecloth. It is intended for commercial and domestic use. A versatile mill, because you can not only use it for pepper, but also for a large number of spices and dried herbs, so you can make your own fresh spice blends.
The grinding mechanism consists of a rotating ceramic element developed by Ken Muff Larsen in the early 1990s. CrushGrind® is the patent holder of the ceramic grinding system, which is also used by many other major brands. The Billund is produced in Europe.
The operation of the CrushGrind® Billund
To fill the grinder, remove the silicone cap at the bottom of the grinder. The fineness of the grind Adjust it by turning the wheel: clockwise for a finer setting, counterclockwise for a coarser one.
To grind, make you a rotating movement with the top part. A short stroke, a back-and-forth movement, will suffice.
Cleaning
When you want to switch spices, grind some coarse (sea) salt to clean the ceramic part. When you unscrew the wheel used to determine the grind, the grinding mechanism is exposed, should you wish to clean it.
Preferably do this with a hard, dry brush; cleaning with water is even allowed. Before doing so, read the instructions on the CrushGrind website. Ensure that the mechanism is completely dry when you put the grinder back into use! The drying time is at least 24 hours.

Material
The Billund is visibly inspired by the Lego minifigures; the name is derived from the place where the official Lego park is located, Billund in Denmark.
The playful design is made with a biocomposite material containing cellulose fibers from certified wood—primarily conifers—harvested from sustainably managed forests. It has a low CO₂2 footprint in contrast to biomaterials made from edible crops. The biocomposite used for the Billund does not compete with the food production chain.
The biocomposite is based on nearly 100% renewable materials with two main components:
- cellulose fibers,
- liquid rosin (called tall oil), a residue of pulp production
Warranty
Crushgrind© gives you a 25-year warranty on the ceramic element.

Expiration date - storage advice
The stated expiration date is an indication of the shelf life. Because many factors can influence the maintenance of the quality of a spice, you may have to take it sooner or enjoy it for a long time. Trust your senses of smell and taste.
Store spices in a closed container, preferably in a dark, dry and cool place
The batch number that we mention with each product helps us to trace from which supply an item comes.
