For thousands of years, people have used pepper. As a medicine and as a seasoning. The oldest pepper area is undoubtedly Malabar, the west coast of India.

Ramses II, one of the greatest pharaohs of ancient Egypt, died in 1212 BC and was mummified. In  In his nostrils was found black pepper, which came from Malabar.  Whether the pepper was only used in embalming or also as a seasoning is unknown to this day.

In Europe  was made in the  ancient knowledge of pepper,  with African pepper and pepper from India came to Africa and from there  ended up in Europe. These peppers included African cubeb pepper, long pepper from Ethiopia and India, paradise grain from the Grey Coast.
