The Crushgrind© Vaasa, just like the Billund, is a durable spice mill, not specifically for grinding pepper made. The windmill with its glass container is made of biocomposite material, and has a ceramic grinding element.

The design is by Sam(uel) Murley of the Danish concept developer Ideas.

The handy, thirteen-centimeter-high Vaasa is, just like the Billund in our range, an 'inverted mill'. The mill stands with the grinding mechanism facing upwards, so that you do not spill any ground material on the work surface or tablecloth. It is intended for commercial and domestic use. A versatile mill, because you can not only use it for pepper, but also for a large number of spices and dried herbs, so you can make your own fresh spice blends.

The grinding mechanism consists of a rotating ceramic element developed in the early 1990s by Ken Muff Larsen. CrushGrind® is the patent holder of the ceramic grinding system, which is also used by many other major brands. Crushgrind is produced in Europe.

New is the availability of spare containers, ensuring your grinder will have a long life should you drop and break a glass. Of course, you can also use the spare glass as intended, to store other spices and switch between spices using the grinding mechanism. Also handy when you have various peppersyou want to use ears side by side. A few units of this are also still available in off-white (reel not (anymore) available in this color).

How the CrushGrind® works Vasa

To fill the mill, unscrew the top of the mill from the glass. The fineness of the grind set yourself by through the Turn the top disc, clockwise for a finer setting, counterclockwise for a coarser one.

To grind, hold the mill upside down, hold the grinding chamber, and turn the glass a quarter turn to the left or right, then make back-and-forth movements. You will notice, the mill reacts very directly.

Cleaning

When you want to switch spices, do so by emptying the container and turning the grinder empty, grind optionally some coarse (sea) salt to thoroughly clean the ceramic part. When you unscrew the wheel used to determine the grind, the grinding mechanism is released, should you need to. want to clean with water.

Preferably do this with a hard, dry brush. Before doing so, read the instructions on the CrushGrind website. Ensure that the mechanism is completely dry when you put the grinder back into use! The drying time is at least 24 hours.

Material

The playful design is made with a biocomposite material containing cellulose fibers from certified wood—primarily conifers—harvested from sustainably managed forests. It has a low CO₂₂ footprint in contrast to biomaterials made from edible crops. The for the The biocomposite used by Vaasa does not compete with the food production chain.

The biocomposite is based on nearly 100% renewable materials with two main components:

• cellulose fibers, from wood
• liquid rosin (called tall oil), a residue of pulp production

The loose jars

Matching pots are available separately, which also serve as containers for the mill. These pots are available in sets of two, but also individually.

Crushgrind© gives you a 25-year warranty on the ceramic element.
