Mulled wine
Ingredients
- 750 ml red wine
- 1 stick of Ceylon cinnamon or maximum 5 cinnamon sticks
- 4-5 cloves
- 3-4 green cardamom
- 1-2 star anise pods
- sliced peel of half an organic orange
- honey, agave syrup, cane sugar or birch sugar (xylose)
Preparation
Crush the cardamom and lightly toast it with the cinnamon, cloves, and star anise in a non-greased frying pan. Meanwhile, heat the wine in another pan. Do not bring to a boil!
Remove the spices from the pan. Crush the cloves and star anise, break the cinnamon sticks or crush the cinnamon buds. Add the spices to the warm wine and let it steep on the heat source for fifteen minutes with the lid closed. Then add the orange peel. Let the wine steep for another five minutes, then strain the spices and peel out of the wine. Only now sweeten the wine to taste.
Serve the mulled wine piping hot in a heat-resistant glass. or a cup.
